Während wir täglich routiniert mit der U-Bahn zur Arbeit pendeln, rasen wir gesellschaftlich oft scheinbar unaufhaltsam auf düstere Szenarien zu. Gefühlt? Jedidas neues Projekt will bewusst mit der Resignation brechen. Inspiriert von Gandhis Appell, selbst die Veränderung zu sein, fordert das Werk im öffentlichen Raum dazu auf, eine bessere Zukunft nicht als Fiktion oder Fabelwesen wie ein Einhorn abzutun, sondern die eigene Vorstellungskraft zu nutzen, und dem vielleicht gerade Unmöglichen eine Möglichkeit zu geben, zumindest in der eigenen Gedankenwelt.

In a time of global uncertainty, marked by the climate crisis and political tensions, artist Jedida Lefèvre transforms everyday life in Vienna into a fundamental question about the future. “BELIEVE IN A BETTER FUTURE” explores precisely this theme and is on view now through the end of February at the Red Carpet Showroom, located near the staircase leading down to the Schottentor U2 station.

While we routinely commute to work by subway every day, as a society we often seem to be hurtling inexorably toward bleak scenarios. Feels that way? Jedida’s new project aims to consciously break with resignation. Inspired by Gandhi’s call to be the change oneself, the work in public space urges us not to dismiss a better future as fiction or a mythical creature like a unicorn, but to use our own imagination and give what may currently seem impossible a chance—at least in our own minds.

Jedida Lefèvre, known for her cross-genre, fluid works, acts as a “transformer” who translates emotions into visual stimuli. In this current project, optimism takes on a political dimension: “For me, belief in a better future is a powerful form of protest,” emphasizes Jedida.
